Today we invite you to visit an unusually interesting museum in a small, ordinary settlement Maiskiy (Alexandrov region). My friend lives here and she told me a lot about her native land.
Many-many years ago the name of the settlement was Fofanka. At the beginning of XXth century there were only five houses there. But in the 1930s Fofanka became a scientific agricultural centre. The scientists, who worked and lived there, liked the place very much as it was very beautiful with wonderful landscape and fresh air. They founded a park with lots of flowers and a monument to Mechurin. In 1967 Fofanka got a new name – Maiskiy. Nowadays there is a school with the organization of young pioneers in the settlement. Schoolchildren are proud of the history of their Motherland and carefully keep its traditions. There is also a "Craft Studio” in the settlement, where pupils can study antique weaving, and other old crafts, make beautiful dolls from the birch bark. Here you can find wonderful towels, aprons, skirts made of hand cloth-weaving. In one of the rooms – the peasant’s room – you can eat tasty pies, pancakes, jam and drink tea with different flavours. The guide will cook them for you. Here you can also sing old Russian songs or just peacefully sit and relax.
Children like this museum; they usually spend their time here and celebrate Maslenitsa, Easter or Christmas.
