"If I were asked what my
birthplace for me is…”
I am David Kurasov, my birthplace is Vladimir.
Vladimir is rather small city in the central part of Russia. But it is also an
amazing city with a lot of places of interest, parks and monuments of white-stone
architecture. I am very proud of living in Vladimir.
Vladimir is an ancient city with a very rich history. It
was founded in 1108 by Vladimir Monomakh, a great prince of Russia. After some
years had gone, Andrew Bogolyubsky made Vladimir a capital of our country. The
most remarkable sight of Vladimir is the Golden Gates, one of the most famous
historic and architectural monuments of old Rus. The permanent exhibition
inside the building welcomes everyone who is fascinated by the history of
Russia. When on school holidays I used to walk around the halls of the museum
and learn a lot about the heroic past of my native place. The Golden Gates
panorama has always attracted me. I remember I could stand for hours peering
into details of heroic battle of the citizens who defended their home town from the Tartars-Mongols
invaders. I felt as if I were there, among those people, and the feeling of
proud and triumph overfilled me. The Golden Gates are the symbol of courage and
heroism of Russian people. That’s why, I can say for certainty, the Golden
Gates have become one of the most important masterpieces which attracts many
tourists from all over the world.
One can’t admire the beauty of other ancient sights of
our city - the Assumption Cathedral, Saint Demetrius Cathedral, Church of
Intercession on the Nerl and many others, but these ones are the most
incredible masterpieces of Russia and its surroundings are superb. I admire
those architects who built such amazing cathedrals and churches. We love them for
their beauty and admiration. While walking along the narrow streets of our old city
I can hear the voices of the past, imagine the scenes of the
heroic battles. I am a part of the history of my city and my country.
Vladimir is also loved not only for churches and
cathedrals; it is rich in other beautiful places. There are a lot of parks
here; one of my favorite places to rest is Pushkin’s park in the centre of the
city. There are a lot of trees, flowers, cosy benches and lanterns there. Teenagers
always spend their free time roller-skating along the trails of Pushkin’s park and
grown-ups enjoy walking there just in order to relax from a hard working day. I
like this park as there is a special place here from where a magnificent sight
on the river Klyazma, the bridge across it, and, of course, on fantastic
Russian forests opens. This is such a really breathtaking view!
Just a little bit of walking from the Golden Gates and
one can find himself in a very amazing place. These are the Patriarch's gardens,
a place, where everybody feels relaxed. Excursions are held in a very
interesting way, so pupils and students are the most common visitors there. You
can get much new information and expand your outlook about trees, bushes, berries,
wild plants and medical herbs that are grown there. The square of the
Patriarch's gardens is very huge. Once, I remember, our class even made an ecological
project organized by the administration of the Patriarch’s gardens. It was an
exciting and funny experience to adopt a tree and later take care of it! Now I
understand, we were firstly taught how to love and protect our nature!
There is another
lovely and dearest place for me in Vladimir - the Klyazma river. Unfortunately,
the Klyazma is not a navigable river, but on the other hand it is an advantage
of it. The Klyazma is polluted less than many other Russian rivers. It is not
so long, but the nature around is very beautiful and picturesque. What is more,
all the year round people can always find an occupation for themselves on the
river. I mean swimming and fishing in summer as well as in winter is rather
popular among our citizens or hiking that is also widely spread among those who
want to relax and to have a good time on the bank of the river.
All in all, Vladimir is the city, which is worth to be
loved and proud. Beautiful historical and outstanding places of the city are
the great cultural heritage of our heroic ancestors that future generation must
preserve. I am sure the more people follow and preserve their culture and traditions,
the more spiritually rich and mighty they are!
