A fairy tale about my native
city and a golden lion…
Once upon a time there was a little girl in an old
Russian city. The city stood on the high bank of the beautiful river. There
were wooden houses, old churches and beautiful cathedrals in that city. It was surrounded by earthen
shaft and water ditch. There were seven gates in the city but the main one was
the Golden Gate.
Our girl was an
orphan and she lived with her old and wise granny not far from the Silver Gate.
The girl was called Vasilisushka. She was so helpful and kindhearted that there
was no anyone who did not loved her. Vasilisushka was busy every minute. From
morning till night she was working hard. And only when she had а free minute she sang songs about the Sun, the people,
the glory the prince, and her native city. Her voice was so clean and strong
that even birds stopped singing when Vasilisushka sang.
Just imagine, the golden
lion with sad eyes and big heart lived in the wild and dark wood not far from
the city. The lion was so large that everybody was afraid of him. But he was so
kind and unhappy. He felt a great power and could not understand what he should
do with it. Sometimes he could not sleep at night and thought about his fate.
One day the lion was walking not far
from the river and heard the beautiful sound. When he came nearer the lion saw
a little girl. She sang sitting on the bank of the river. Her face was so happy
and her song told the lion about a wonderful city with wooden churches and amazing
cathedrals. The lion admired the courage of the people who protected their
native city. Нe was surprised with skills of architects and at last the huge animal was hypnotized
with the super power of that small girl, the power of Love. She loved the blue
sky, the green grass, the people who lived with her, she loved her native city
with all her heart. The golden lion was standing on the bank of the river
looking at the golden domes of the white-stone cathedrals and realized that his
super mission would be to protect that wonderful city with its wonderful
people. And nowadays we see the lion on the arms of Vladimir.
